âNetanyahu is a tragedyâ - Nancy Pelosi on MSNBC
Today marks the 50th anniversary to the day Golda Meir handed in her resignation following the debacle of the Yom Kippur War, despite being cleared by the Agranat National Commission. Weâre not holding our breath for the current Prime Minister to take a page from her book.
Among the inappropriate, crude festivities planned by the government for Israelâs Independence Day, the current first prize in bad taste goes out to the Ministry of Public Diplomacy (Hasbara). Despite supposedly being closed following the massacre, its budget has allowed for the production of a music video by Israeli superstar Omer Adam dedicated to the Nova festival victims and shot in the crime scene - the Reâim Park - with family members of the victims lip synching to the song. After the family members left, a dancing troupe performed a choreography consisting of revelers being shot at and escaping.
Two Haaretz reporters infiltrated the closed set (closed despite being financed by the taxpayer and despite taking place in an open public park set by the Jewish National Fund). They interviewed two relatives of Nova victims.
"It's too early, it's too grandiose and it's too expensive," tells us the father of one of the victims of the Nova massacre, who refused to participate in the filming. "This production lacks the modicum of modesty in the face of the greatest disaster the country has known. As a family, we refused to take part, and we are not the only ones. We are in mourning⊠Who even dances and sings when in mourning? This production is a spit in our face. Not only do we receive almost zero support from the government, but now it comes to dance on our son's blood. Literally. And they ask us to dance along with them. Itâs a shame."
A bereaved family member who did participate in the filming recalled afterwards: "It was terrible. In retrospect, I'm sorry I was there. They spoke to us nicely, drived us and brought us home and respected us. But death was in the air all the time and it lasted for hours. They refused to let us see the dance that came after us. We were told to sing in the background of the footage of us going in and out of the place of slaughter. Are you serious?! To sing? At some point one of the crew members saw that I was taking a picture of something on my phone. He literally demanded that I delete the picture."
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has appointed a new police commissioner. Deputy Police Commissioner Avshalom Peled has been extremely chummy with the Minister and his chief of staff over the past year, and apparently he will enjoy the fruit of his actions.
You wonât be too shocked to find out Peled has created zoning violations in his home, would you? Apparently Mateh Yehuda Regional Council has opened an investigation against him under the suspicion that Peled annexed a public area adjacent to his house in Moshav Zecharia, encompassing about 5,381 square feet, and fenced it off. The case is still open and Peled has not settled the violations. A model citizen, indeed.
In a meeting yesterday (Wednesday), heads of councils evacuated in the north heard from the Minister of Finance, Betzalel Smotrich, that they are allotted 1 billion ILS for the rehabilitation of their councils, despite Netanyahu promising 4.5 billion, and despite 18 billion ILS allotted to the Negev councils. Beni Ben Muvhar, head of the Mevoâot Hermon regional council, said in the discussion: "We buried 21 of our people who were in hotels! Communities are falling apart. People will not come back, now that they realize what theyâre missing out on, living on the edge of the countryâ.
Please note we will be taking time off and are set to return after Passover. May we have good tidings to bring. May the hostages and their families soon feel the true meaning of the festival of freedom.
